minus 17 in minot. wind out there as well, feels much colder. like minus 47 in glasgow and these temps go on and on and across much of the south where even into parts of texas we have windchill advisories in effect. it is going to be feeling incredibly cold all the way to the south, all the way to the west. much of california had a really rough week with a lot of the agriculture out there was well. and then this storm we'll dealing with, almost done. at least the icing we saw. dallas through parts of the ohio valley and a lot of people without power. a lot of accidents. take a while to get all the power back on. now we just have the tail end to bring a little rain to the southeast and see things clear ot for today across parts of the northeast. there's a new storm, though, and this is one out across parts of california. you see the rain moving into central california. big snow in across parts of the tahoe area. great news. they desperately need snow and snow pack across much of the

west. this storm is great. we'll take it. it will have a slightly different storm track this time, maybe further up the north, more snow. the rockies, light snow across the northern plains and a little icing around the d.c. area tomorrow and rain and some snow into interior sections across the northeast. we keep going. >> and the cold doesn't go anywhere. >> cold stays about another four days. >> you call it a little ice around the d.c. area. we call it complete panic and gridlock and chaos. >> exactly. >> we can see the lines in the grocery store from here. >> can't imagine. speaking of panic, say you're one of the relatively few americans, tens of thousands, who actually signed up at the website and thought you bought your insurance through healthcare.gov. now it turns out you may not have the insurance you thought you had. about one in four of the people in october and november who signed up aren't going get insurance, because of errors with the website. either the insurance companies weren't notified, the money

wasn't sent, the connection wasn't made. the worst part, you may not know. the federal government has not notified those people if they do not have insurance. >> you have until december 23rd, of course, to actually enroll. the point, come january 1st if you thought your registration went through the process, january 1st got the new coverage, turns out because of the errors you might not be enrolled at all. 1 in 4, corrected? that was 1 out of every 10 folks according to a new report this morning, one out of ten people who signed up through the website lieutenant have have errors involved. overall 25 perce% have errors a may not have coverage. >> and claiming victory, setting their bar so low at 80% of a success rate, that there you go. the problems are with these so-called 834 forms, which has

your personal information sent to the information, mind you, that goes from healthcare.gov to the insurance companies and the information sometimes is muddied, incorrect, there's duplicate applications and sometimes not there at all, and you don't even know it. >> people wind up having their children signed up for adult plans. the irony, of course, all of this obama care from the very beginning was designed to bring health insurance to the unins e uninsured and it's wound up stripping a lot of people who had insurance of their insurance and the most negligent part, many don't know. the obama organization is so negligenn, many don't even know. >> and the doctors, in fact, a number of doctors jumping ship and boycotting obama care altogether. go out to the state of california, in fact, seven out of ten doctors, ard coulding to a new report out this morning, are boycotting the obama care

exchange, because, for instance, for getting a tonsilectomy. $500 to $700 they would normally be able to charge for a tonsilectomy in other parts of the country. in california, $160. one of the doctors, he's the president of the california medical association, he sums it up perfectly. we need recognition we're doing a service to the community, but we can't do it for free. he says, we can't do it at a loss. no other business would do that. >> $160? you can't get a bone and rib-eye and a bottle of beer at the pub for that. that's an outrage. >> and return visits, also, $76. generally in most states across the country. in california, it's about $24. take an listen to the doctor in the state of california. a very loose state, mind you, who's fed up with this. >> we train to take care of patients. that's the bottom line here, but in order to take care of patients you have to be able to keep your doors open, pay your overhead, pay your staff.

the reality is $24 doesn't cover the cost of taking care of the patient. nats why there's problems getting doctors taking care of medicaid patients in california. we cannot have the exchanges offering such low rates for patients who are moving out of the ppo market or the individual market. if you put enough people in the plans and don't have enough doctors doing, you end up with a bottleneck. >> nothing the administration can do, bullied what, are they going to arrest doctors for not treating patients for $140 for a tonsilectomy? they can't control it. >> we'll talk to governor hu huckabee later in the show. and we remember those killed tragically at pearl harbor on the japanese surprise attack on pearl harbor. fdr called it day that will live

welcome back. here watching the news yesterday you may have noticed the unemployment rate dip to a five-year low this month, 7.3% to 7% during the month of november. that means 203,000 jobs were added to the economy. sounds like good news, but some economists say the numbers mask a pervasive problem just beneath the surface. record high unemployment among young americans. put these numbers into context, economist in the university of maryland business professor is here with us. good morning. >> good morning. >> so these numbers are being trumpeted all around by the president's supporters on various broadcasts we did yesterday as great news, but you say they're not what they appear to be. why? >> well, simply, the quality of jobs are not very good and most

young people really are having a terrible time getting started in careers. you know, college graduates are still working at starbucks and the like, and we have a lot of college graduates who are really graduate students, not learning very much, because they can't find a job. piling up a lot of debt and so forth. >> so at what point is this assumption that every person needs to go a four-year college and then get a graduate degree going to fold under the weight of the counterevidence maybe it's smarter to join the work force earlier? >> i think it's starting right now. for example, law schools are reducing sizes of classes and several prominent business schools did not raise enough applications last year to start a first year class. for example, george mason university did not have a first year class here in virginia. and, you know, i know my program, my part-time program, which is our bread and butter, our enrollment is down. you've got to deliver jobs and value in the end. i don't think that's happening. >> that's smart. every time unemployment numbers come out, smart economists say, wait a second. the real measure here is work

force participation. what percentage of american whose can work, who want to work, are working? why isn't that the number the government releases and that we use as our common currency of this conversation? >> it does release it, right alongside the unemployment numbers but the press is just interested in the unemployment number because it's a sexy number, one we've used over tile. like the headline number for the cpi or the core number for the cpi and people are aware of it. i i don't think the administration is doing a terribly good job of selling itself. mr. obama wouldn't have a 39% approval rating even with the obama care if he had a good job rating. people are working multiple part time job, can't make ends meet. why we have demonstrations outside mcdonald's. if we had a healthy job market we wouldn't be discussing the minimum wage. >> the income disparity the

>> i just want to be a football player. >> reporter: those dreams may have been cut short if it weren't for saint jude's children's research hospital helping him fight a brain cancer and rare form of pediatric cancer. >> ingram was diagnosed last year, march 29th, came home in preschool, said he'd been having headaches and 3-year-olds don't have headaches. >> the headaches would come out at -- they would come out, they had to go -- >> all kinds of headaches and everything and taking ingram for the scan, you get the phone call, what was that like? >> more like panic. i went outside, i said, repeat that. what did you just say? he told me again, i was like -- okay. >> it was kind of scary, because when i heard my mom crying, i knew something was wrong. >> reporter: immediately, the family thought of saint jude. they been longtime fund-raisers

for the research hospital that cease 8,000 of the world's sickest kids each year. they never thought their ingram would fit into that category. >> and it turns out he has a rare type of cancer called anto plastic ananoma. can you treat? they said, yes, we do treat it and are actually running the study for the national cancer institute. >> we had surgery, of course, took the tumor out, then redid a diagnosis to determine the outcome, treatment appropriate for that particular tumor and then ingram got chemotherapy for about four months and then radiation therapy. >> 22 pounds, half the size he is now. belly sunken in. what was the hardest moment for you? >> fear that you wonder, you know, how many days you have left with your child? and you wonder how bad it will be, and you wonder, you know, if

your son will get to do all the things that you, you dreamed about him doing from the time that he's born. >> reporter: ingram lost his hair, but dad was sure to make him feel comfortable with it. >> my dad shaved my hair, and he shaved his hair. sign up until after the deadline passes when you think you're covered? >> one in ten sounds bad but it's an improvement. check out the full screen we have here just last month and during october when it was rolled out, one in four had these errors. we're talking about the 834 forms that go from healthcare.gov and they get fired over to the insurance companies and there's a problem with these transmissions where sometimes the information is jarbled and all mucked up. sometimes there are duplicate applications filed and sometimes they're not there at all. people are discovering hey, i signed up, i waited in line, i was on the website going through this mess for how long, and i'm not even enrolled. >> there is almost no possible foul up that isn't occurring to this process under obama care. people being enrolled in names that aren't theirs, having their children enrolled under their names. the cruelest irony of all is that obama care was passed on the promise it would bring insurance to the uninsured, health care to people who couldn't get it and the opposite

is true. more have lost their health care that have gained it so far. the cruelest of the cruelest is some don't know. if they wind up sick, believing they're covered by health insurance find out they're no the. >> you think because of how important this program is to the president, the president's legacy and his signature program, he would be having meeting after meeting with health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius to make sure we are on par, going to nail this thing. when we roll this out it's going to be a success. more scrutiny paid to how much time president obama actually devoted to meeting one on one with kathleen sebelius. peter went through these gia logs of the institute logbooks this week and found out she and the president, kathleen sebelius and president obama, never met face to face one on one in a one-on-one meeting. zero times. so we knew that reporting this week. now an update this morning because jay carney took to the podium yesterday to say not so

fast, don't believe everything you hear. >> he basically said all kinds of times, it's just not on the books. take a listen to jay carney. >> cabinet secretaries don't regularly get entered into the visitor logs because they come frequently. and kathleen sebelius comes frequently and she meets frequently with the president. i will refer you to the department for more information and more detail but she's here a lot. >> really? where is that detail? it has not been provided so far by the white house. keep in mind that 217 other occasions where the president met with the cabinet secretary were recorded. how often did the president meet with kathleen sebelius? does the information not exist, not keeping track or withholding it from the american people? >> why would he have met 73 times with former secretary clinton, and fwitser er igeith those happen to be on the calendar but zero times with kathleen sebelius.

conspiracy theorists saying maybe this whole thing was because of if the website ends up being a debacle, if aca ends up being a debacle he can run the other direction and say -- and push the blame and push the buck on to somebody else. >> jay carney is being disingenuo disingenuous. it has nothing to do with the logbooks. the logs have to do with the president's personal calendar and when he said well, you know, we don't -- cabinet secretaries often aren't logged in the visitor logbooks. the question was on the president's personal calendar where are these meetings that apparently happened. they all should be there. this was the administration that said they were going to open up their calendars and logbooks and be transparent. >> gets to the most basic question, which is does the public which is funding this government and living under its authority, have a right to know anything about how it works and resoundingly for the past five years, the answer is no. i can say this is a member of the working press. we cover the white house in washington. you can't get a straight answer

to anything. people said the bush administration is the most anti-media, most, you know, closed and secret administration ever. i thought that was true until these people showed up. it's unbelievable. >> and further just let me make this final point here, if they were meeting to jay carney's point, meeting one on one, how didn't the president know that this was about to become a disasser? >> supposedly the contractor had been warning kathleen sebelius about the website problems and glitches for months. >> if they were having one-on-one meetings that's a worse scenario. you would think she would have told him this website is going to be a disaster? do you buy it? do you believe it? e-mail us. other stories to get to. fox news alert while you were sleeping, an american war veteran held captive in north korea for over a month released. right now merrill newman is on a plane bound for san francisco and expected to arrive early this afternoon. he was deported after the communist state released a video of newman apologizing for crimes he committed during the korean war. arriving at the airport in

was in when he died. tmz reporting walker's fans recorded the whole thing. the men running up to a tow truck and taking off with the parts. one of those men is reportedly 18-year-old jameson witty. he posted these photos on instagram grabbing about the grab, he is behind bars. the other man is expected to turn himself in soon. you're looking at live pictures from johannesburg, south africa, where visitors from all over the world continue to mourn the loss of nelson mandela. memorial plans are under way. it could be the largest service the world has ever seen. president obama will travel to south africa for the memorial along with presidents bush and clinton. they will be joined by other world figures like the pope and celebrities including bill gates and oprah. the public service will be on tuesday then mandela's body will lie in state for three days. after that his body will be flown to his home village for a private memorial. here we go.

basically kill bald eagles. >> it's unbelievable. granted by the obama administration. bald eagles and many other birds of prey are really protected. you're dove shooting and hit a bald eagle by accident you can go to prison, you will be prosecuted. if you own a wind farm, many of which have given a lot of money to the real action campaign of president obama, you have an exemption. these wind farms kill an awful lot of birds. >> i didn't know this about bald eagles. i knew they look down for food. this is why, because they drive like we do when driving and texting on our cell phones and use this analogy, they don't look up as they scan for food below. they plow into these blades and are killed. >> well, this is -- information coming from the "wall street journal" that this is all an effort obviously to foster renewable energy and that industry which is something that president obama has really tried to, you know, if you put your green hat on you can thank him for doing that, but the real issue, the real reason why this

♪ welcome back. the president swore to uphold the law of the land, all presidents do, but some are saying a he's not upholding the law with his name on it, obama care. the next guest testified before the congress about why that is so dangerous. >> if the people come to believe the government is no longer constrained by the laws they will conclude no longer are they. this is a dangerous sort of

thing for the president to do to wantly ignore the laws. >> that is a very deep point and not often enough articulated. michael, the man that said it. director of health policy studies at the cato institute in washington. thanks for joining us. >> good morning. >> very smart as you just said, if people think the president's not constrained by laws they will believe they are not either. give us examples of how the president has ignored the law. >> the biggest example is there are provisions in obama care that only take effect if the states establish these health insurance exchanges, only if there is an exchange, quote, established by the state. now those provisions include the subsidies available through exchanges and the employer mandate, the penalties imposed on employers if they don't offer what the government considers adequate health insurance. 34 states said they're not going to create exchanges and the federal government is operating exchanges in those states so that means those provisions by law are inoperative in those

states. employers in those 34 states are exempt from those taxes. >> right. >> but what the the obama administration is doing, is the exact opposite of what the law says. the exact opposite. they are issuing the subsidies and imposing those taxes in those 34 states and their rationale for doing the opposite of what the law says is that's what congress intended. >> but wait a second. we have a congress, we can fact check this with the people who pass the law. they're still there. they're sitting in their seats in that domed building. where are they? the president is usurping power reserved for the legislative branch and they're not doing anything about it, why? >> well, half of congress likes the outcome here. the half of congress that's controlled by democrats likes the fact that the president is doing this thing because they think it's going to save obama care. but the statute is clear, the legislative history supports the statute, the administration has nothing -- has found nothing in

the statute or legislative history that supports its bizarre interpretation of the law and attempt to really turn this part of the law on its head. they're doing it because if they don't, then there will be a greater backlash against obama care and congress will have to reopen it. >> shortsighted because the precedences are getting laid down that will have effects in the future. the president has decided he can interpret the law how he wants, they get exemptions, they don't. isn't there a danger the republican president could come in and start interpreting obama care in his way and basically gut it? >> there is. fortunately we have a way of stopping the president or this particular abuse of his power. there have been four lawsuits if filed in federal court to block niece illegal subsidies and taxes. one of them just had a hearing this week. we might get rulings on one or more of them by the end of this year. the sooner the better. we are talking about -- this isn't chump change we'r talking

dead at his home. police say three people tried to force their way into the home of los angeles home and a fight broke out. 42-year-old james marcus' home was -- james marcus howie was killed. and his wife was seriously wounded. according to officials the shooting seems to be a random act of violence with no obvious motive. six people in mexico arrested in connection with the theft of a truck carrying radioactive material. all six in the hospital being tested for radiation exposure. doctors say that while all are showing some signs of exposure none are in serious condition at the moment. if and when they are released from the hospital they will be turned over to mexico's federal authorities. talk about motivation, a woman in oregon wanted to join the army so bad but couldn't because she didn't meet weight requirements. that was 15 months ago and now the 23-year-old is just 110 pounds lighter than she was before and getting ready to start a new chapter in the

states here, how specifically would people save by moving to different states? in what areas of their lives? checking account, paycheck? >> we're talking about the taxable income which changes state by state. essentially that's a price on work. some states, nine states like this one in florida, put a price at zero. so many of the new yorkers, new jersey residents, moving down south. you can see they can save several thousand dollars per year that adds up over a lifetime. >> dive into specific examples. start with folks living in new york. where are they moving and how much would they save? give us a general example of a person, maybe a 50-year-old taxpayer in that state? >> sure. we're seeing the big trend, the past 18 years, over 43 million americans from the northeast moving to a state like florida. $95 billion going down there. 50-year-old average taxable income leaving new york going to florida could easily save over $6600. that's over $200,000 with the

time remaining before retirement. >> if you saved that money in an account accruing that way it could be a windfall for you. next out to minnesota. i didn't realize there was a problem in minnesota with taxes, a big problem there. >> well, cold weather there today, and in fact, the last year they just raised the price of work up to 9.85%. you're seeing already from the past 18 years, flight to florida and arizona, that's expected to get worse when you raise that price on work for those people that don't like those taxes. >> so they have the fourth highest income rate in the country. out to california, we know many people moving out of california to save some money. where are they going? >> that's right. generally those that are, for example, outside of san bernadino, riverside, don't want to leave, but then they're looking at a savings of several thousand dollars per year going may be.r las vegas or phoenix these arrows show you evidence of that. >> wow. >> going out of the state.

refuses to sign a deal that would allow u.s. troops to stay in the country past 2014. the u.s. says they want a deal signed by the end of the month. hagel has no plans to meet with karzai on his trip. his office says he is in the country to thank troops for their service. and now, you are about to look at live pictures from johannesburg, south africa, where visitors from all over the world continue to mourn the loss of nelson mandela. memorial plans are under way. it could be the largest service the world has ever seen. president obama will travel to south africa for the memorial along with presidents bush and clinton. they will be joined by other world figures like the pope and celebrities including bill gates and oprah. the public service will be held on tuesday. mandela's body will lie in state for three days. after that his body will be flown to his home village for a private burial. a new battle in the war on christmas. now congress looking to tax your christmas free. your christmas tree. they want to tack on 15 cents

per tree. the reason? to pay for a federal christmas tree promotion board. its purpose would be to enhance the image of the christmas tree industry in the united states. maybe we should be calling it a holiday tree. >> people hate christmas trees. look at that. next they'll tax the reindeer outside. what's next? >> we have extreme weather alert, at least 11 people are dead after a winter storm packed with snow, ice and surprisingly cold temperatures descended on the united states. ice, sleet and snow in parts of texas caused several accidents, power outages and flight cancellations. >> check out this video out of duluth, minnesota. an eerie steam effect on lake superior. this happens when the water temperature is warmer than the air. over the past week duluth got almost 3 feet of snow. rick reichmuth is standing by, a tweet from murray holderman in montana. he says it's negative 13 right now. >> yeah, warm. >> negative 13. >> better than glass cow where

it's minus 32. >> in montana. the cold is extreme. the temperatures in the far northern rockies and plains seems crazy cold and it is for that area but it's crazy cold to the south. you're 1 degrees in midland, texas, and 21 in dallas and 4 in amarillo. factor in the wind, it feels colder than that. feels like minus 8 in amarillo, texas. it gives you an idea this cold has settled way far to the south. if you're in the southern areas you're not used to that kind of cold. a lot of people might not have heat in texas and arizona. phoenix at 32 degrees. big agricultural impacts from this storm or this cold air as well. this eastern coast storm where we saw this icing that's pretty much gone. little bit of leftover rain.% the cold stays in place and there's a new storm that is going to form. we're going to see this develop by tomorrow morning and you see that pink, that's potentially another bit of an ice storm across parts of kentucky. this time eastern kentucky and across parts of north carolina, virginia and eventually towards the d.c. area where i think

december 23rd and you think you have coverage on january 1st you may not have coverage. what do you make of this latest revelation? >> it's an ongoingisaster and i think people need to realize as bad as the website is and it's clearly been a train wreck, it's nothing compared to weapons when people finally get into obama care and now we're learning that, for example, in states like washington state, nine times more people signed up for medicaid than to pay for insurance. so this is just another chapter in the continuing saga of maybe obama's greatest disaster. this one in ten failure, think about that. some might say that's only 10%. would we accept that 10% of our mail would be delivered in a mud put al block from our house? of course not. would we accept our doctor 10% of the time gave us the wrong medicine and made us sicker? of course not. would we accept a restaurant would serve us food 10% of the time would make us violently ill? no. should americans be willing to accept 10% complete failure even

after we've spent $700 million? of course not. >> this is health care a life or death question. in the middle of all these debacles and scandals, very tough first term the -- second term the president has had so far, he chooses to explain himself to one of his prime people, professional obama sniffer, this man. >> chris tingle. >> kriss kringle is the christmas person but this is chris tingle -- >> we can't make this up. >> rather than ask a single real question he continues to slobber over the president. >> i thought they should have got an room. >> i'm going to continue the rest of this interview in the same way chris mathews did the interview with president obama. governor huckabee, you were an incredible governor and a very handsome man too. >> thank you. >> how do you say that all the time? >> how many -- when you get an interview like that, to me, what's the love fest aside, missed a lot of opportunities to push him on these big questions about obama care and other programs, right?

>> you know, honestly when i've been interviewed i would rather somebody ask me hard questions because you can knock one out of the park when it's a fastball across the shoulder. if somebody is just lobbing things down in the dirt, which -pis what mathews essentially d, it makes both of them frankly look less than they should. >> have you ever watched obama get a tough question. one of our reporters asked him a tough question and he looked so outraged he couldn't talk. >> bret baier did the question with him and bret was pressing him, it was respectful, but doing the job of a real journalist and you could see obama bristoling with indignation, how dare him push me. >> maybe that's why the presidents are sort of going on lockdown now. talking about this earlier on the show they don't want the hard questions and therefore, having press conferences not even meeting with reporter mitt romney got testy with bret asking him tough questions. >> i'm going to start getting testy with you guys. obama has done interviews,

remember the disk jockey in florida, his nickname on air the pimp with the limp. those are hard-hitting interviews. at the same time he wouldn't do interviews with -- >> on fox news channel, msnbc instead. the president surrounding himself with people who, you know, are drinking the coolaid which is something that they do but valerie jarrett was recently quoted as saying that the reason that president obama possibly hasn't met with kathleen sebelius because he's so extraordinary that he doesn't do what ordinary people do and maybe that's why we don't understand his actions. >> use that excuse around my house. >> but jay carney yesterday said, of course, they've met a bunch of times, it's just not on the record. do you buy that? do you believe they've plett met? >> no. white house logs are thorough, if no other reason than historical purposes, they want to keep those logs in case they're subpoenaed or asked questions, you know, she just didn't show up in the logs.

the review is pretty thorough here. >> following on something valerie jarrett said, wouldn't it be easier to have sick people touch the hem of obama's garment and be healed. >> that's a great idea. he alluded to something in an interview with mathews about his management style, how, you know, it's not his management style, it's the fault of the internal bureaucracy of the government, but that is an issue of his management style. good managers understand you see the whole field of play, you take the problem, you take a big problem, break it down into little problems, you assign people and task them with the responsibility of fixing it, and you hold them accountable. you check on them constantly. he doesn't check up on things. he doesn't know what's happening. every time he's asked a question, his answer and everyone in the administration, i don't know. he found out about that when he read it in the papers. saw that on tv. this is the most amazing president who is unaware of what he's managing. >> this is what the president said during that interview about his management style. let's listen.

>> the challenge i think that we have going forward is not so much my personal management style or particular issues around white house organization, it actually has to do with what i refer to earlier, which is we have these big agencies, some of which are outdated, some of which are not designed properly -- >> well, if he's got a big government that's not working well, why would we throw health care into it? i mean, you know, that's like saying we have a problem, all of our clothes are getting eaten up by the grinder so let's throw our hands in there too along with our clothes. that's the most amazing reason to not trust obama care. he just gave it to us and he didn't realize it. >> one of our supervisors shows up drunk, let's give him more responsibility, what do you say? >> and a liquor cabinet, why not. >> are you ready for the rumors to begin swirling once again around another presidential run? i know you just went through this for 2012 election. can you handle 2016? looks like rumors are swirling they want you to throw your hat

across the country fast food workers walking off the job demanding higher wages. president obama supports raising minimum wage to over $10. some say it will hurt the economy. we've got a fair and balanced debate. joined by michael, a senior research fellow with the employment policies institute, marjorie, a former consultant to the obama campaign. thanks for joining us this morning. marjorie, i think most people understand in a bad economy a lot of people trying to live off fast food worker wages very tough, sympathetic to the idea of raising their wages. when workers get too expensive businesses replace workers.

so we will see automated ordering, won't we, at fast food places? >> look, in order to raise any kind of salary you're obviously going to -- or any kind of wage you're going to have to change the business model a little bit. it means things will cost a little more, there will have to be a shift in the workers. you have to look at the long-term outcome. you pay workers more in the long run, end up with more americans which can spend pore money which grows businesses and our economy having these low wage workers puts on our systems like social security and medicaid, we end up paying almost $900 billion to bank tellers alone, low wage bank tellers, to subsidize their living. we pay for it one way or the other. >> that's an interesting point, michael. what's your response? in the end the public will foot the bill anyway if businesses don't pay their workers enough? >> what we can do is provide a partial subsidy through programs like the earned income tax credit as we do right now or provide a 100% subsidy if you raise the minimum wage to $15 an

hour and people can't get work. it's refreshing we just had someone, a proponent of this admit on air it would require shifts in the work force. we haven't necessarily seen that in the past. but it's kind of common sense. you create a $15 minimum wage in an industry where margins are low, customers demand low prices, and if businesses can't pass that on, that is going to mean fewer opportunities and the same way it's meant that european fast food locations you place your order via a touch screen instead of with a person. >> that is kind of the bottom line. you can't force businesses to keep workers they can't afford, right? the government can't control employs, right? >> well no, but what they can do, be you not only have president obama but pope francis talk about is a living wage. set the minimum wage at a level that people can survive on. you have states already emulating what a lot of these workers are talking about. seattle recently raised their minimum wage to $15 an hour. california $10 an hour. i think people are understanding because frankly those strains

end up getting pushed to the states. states have to subsidize those same people. >> very quickly, wouldn't a business get a lot out of the henry ford model? unilaterally saying we're going to pay more than market price for our employees and charge you more and wouldn't that be like a huge pr for a business? >> if a business could do that, if a business could do that they would have done it already. they wouldn't need the federal government telling them to do that. it's instrubtive the examples we're hearing, fast food strikes, airport in seatle, these are union-backed campaigns to try to create a discussion, try to demonize large companies but at the end of the day all they're doing is restricting opportunities for sort of the people at the bottom rung of the career ladder in an environment where you have 20% unemployment in young adults and people less experienced. >> that was really interesting. thanks to you both. >> thank you. pearl harbor survivor kicked off a plane on his way to attend a remembrance ceremony. wait until you hear the justification for this. this is going to outrage you.

david kennedy, founder of principle security consultants and a white hat hacker. what is a white hat hacker? >> white hat hacker is somebody that gets paid to break into large corporations and show how hackers break in for the good side. >> you get paid to break into things. >> i get paid to break in. lock picked doors and hop fences and steal stuff. cat burglar too. >> when you hear the president saying the website is fixed, nothing to see here, all concerns have been laid to rest, what do you say? >> well, i don't say that's accurate. the way you look at it, if you look at the october 1st to november 30th deadline, they were purely fixing bugs to keep the website up and running. jamming hardware in, at least for what we see on the front end but the back end was really bad. the one in ten issue where people aren't receiving the benefits they request, but the security front, we it testified in front of congress a few weeks back on the security concerns we addressed and sent to hhs and up in of them have been fixed.

still insecure, still having problems, this is the tip of the iceberg. >> you're being nice here. i was reading some reports this week of how bad the security actually is. almost no attention paid to the security side of this? all of your personal information on this website. you're giving up some pretty important personal information here. all available all exposable you're saying? >> well, what we can do, we can't hack the site but we can look around and profile, passive reconnaissance. we can look at how the website was built and found critical exposures on the outlying side of the website from what we see from the outside. the critical issues, things that could expose your information, user id, first name, last name, address, click on a link that hacks your computer and takes full control of it. a lot of basic things that wasn't done. security wasn't a concern because they were trying to run it out the door. it's pretty bad right now. >> i talked to -- i don't know if i was telling you this before, i spoke to the head of security for twitter. it's a 24-hour job and they are

dedicated to trying to make sure your personal information doesn't get out there. here, though, from the government, really hasn't been much of a focus, is disheartening. how long do you think it will take for them to make this a priority and get the website up to snuff? >> the problem is, you think about how you build a house. you build a solid foundation to build the house on top. if you don't build the foundation right and there's crack and the foundation is sinking into quick sand or something like that you have to dig the whole thing out. that's what we're seeing with healthcare.gov. they didn't build the architecture right around security so it's going to take a long time to fix, a year or more. >> what do you think by costs? we've spent upwards of a billion dollars to build the website without security? when you throw security into the mix how much should someone have to pay for that? >> based on the current trends probably double of what you see now. really this type of website you see right in front of us should only cost about $5 million or $10 million from everything from start to finish architecture, security everything. not sure how it cost that much unfortunately. >> double the cost. that's good news.

don't have insurance. >> it's personal, sensitive information with these 834 forms you're talking about. the insurance companies, there is a problem with the information being transmitted from health care.gov and the insurance companies. the applications are getting muddied up, false information or duplicates or not getting them. those are the people really in trouble. >> they're claiming and one of the members is claiming we are going to get a very granule level to identify the individuals impacted so we have the ability to reach them directly. if the applications themselves are messed up, the name is messed up, social security number is messed up, how are you going to get access to these people to let them know, hey, you don't have coverage, we screwed up your application. >> the irony is the justification for obama care from day one was there are a lot of people who don't have health insurance. some percentage of the population doesn't have health insurance. since coming into law, obama

care caused more people to lose health insurance than gained it through obama care. >> that is startling. a new report out this week, on thursday claimed that president obama never held a one-on-one meeting with kathleen sebelius who is in charge of obama care, head of hhs. the white house on friday, jay carney held a press conference and says those reports are erroneous. of course he met with kathleen sebelius and often those aren't logged into the log book. listen to jay carney. >> cabinet secretaries don't regularly get entered into the visitors' logs because they come frequently. kathleen sebelius comes frequently and meets frequently with the president. i will refer you to the department for more information and more detail. she is here a lot. >> that's simply not true and he is being disingenuous there.

it's not about the law books, but the president's personal calendar. that is what the initial report was citing. >> why is there so much documentation for others members of the cabinet? why is it on record for former secretary clinton having met 73 times one-on-one or 57 times for secretary timothy geithner? it doesn't make sense. americans are outraged about the whole debacle of the website and this new released information of 1-10 having problems. governor mike huckabee is fired up, too. >> this 1-10 failure, that's only 10%, would we accept 10% of our mail be delivered in a mud puddle? of course not? our doctor 10% gave us the wrong medicine and made us sicker? of course no a restaurant would service food that 10% of the time would make us violently ill? no. should americans be willing to accept 10% complete failure

after we spent $700 million? of course not. >> if they've been meeting that many times, it just hasn't been on the books, how come the president somehow wasn't in the loop from kathleen sebelius? she was warned there were glitches and problems with health.gov. >> this administration is keeping a record of every cell phone call i make and google search i perform and they can't tell us how many times he met with the hhs secretary? this is the response you get time and again. i've never seen an administration this resistant to answering a simple question. how many times did they meet? they won't tell you. >> it's supposed to be the most transparent administration in history. they wanted these log books open so the public could see who was coming in the white house having all these meetings. they gave us the excuse they are not that accurate, data basis weren't catching up. they weren't in sync, really? >> but who did you call on the

offered him a flight home on air force 2 but said newman declined that offer. biden said the u.s. needs to work on the release of an american held captive in north korea over a year. this is new overnight. defense secretary chuck hagel lands in kabul amongst chaos. it comes after afghan president hamid karzai refuses to sign a deal allowing american troops to stay in the country past 2014. they want a deal signed by the end of the month. hagel has no plans to meet with karzai. he is in the country to thank troops for their service. now you are looking at live pictures from johannesburg, south africa, where visitors all over the world continue to mourn the loss of nelson mandela. president obama will travel to south africa for the memorial along with presidents bush and

clinton. they'll be joined by other world figures like the pope and celebrities including bill gates and oprah. the public service will be on tuesday. mandela's body will lie in state for three days. after that his body will be flown to his home village for a private burial. the grammy nominations are out. justin timberlake lead the pack at seven. did mr. suit and tie get snubbed? timberlake's 20/20 experience was the best-selling release but he still didn't get nominated in top categories like album, song, record of the year. another person shut out. how about this one? miley cyrus. she got no nominations. taylor swift, bruno mars and katy perry performed her hit song last night "roar." ♪ i got the eye of the tiger

twitter earlier. does this cold weather mean that the arctic ice is going to form more during the winter? it would make you think if it's that cold here it's much colder here. not necessarily the case. we end up in a different pattern where the colder air gets shoved farther south. if you look at the weather maps, i can show you this. you look at that temperature in canada towards the arctic circle. minus 6 for a high. billings, minus 9. the colder air is much farther south. take a look over the next few days. the cold air does retreat back in towards areas of the arctic. we remain cold here. you'll notice this pink, the very cold air stays very close to the u.s. i think we'll continue to see batches of that come down across the u.s. the next couple of weeks. we are not done with this by any means. new storm moving in across parts of the west. new snow in lake tahoe area. a lot of them are open and opening new terrain. it's cold enough to make snow.

big-time winter storm warnings again across areas of the southwest, which is where i'm headed to today. >> that was a great question. one of your viewers, it would be nice if you mentioned that person's name on the air to thank them. >> you're right. i'm trying to think of it off the top of my head. >> you're telling us the north pole is not going to be frozen over solid. >> we like to see the ice happening there. there's been a longer term problem with melting. not necessarily global warming, but a pattern we are in. this is a much bigger complex conversation than the producers want us to get in. >> thank you, rick. here is a question. is it okay to kill the very symbol of america? that symbol is the bald eagle. if you hunt or live in a rural area, the answer is emphatically no. kill a bald eagle, even by accident when you're hunting and you're likely to go to jail. if you run a wind farm, however,

favored by the obama administration, it is now okay. this is a big deal because it turns out wind farms kill an awful lot of bald eagles and other birds of prey. they have no penalty. they face no penalty for doing so under the new ruling. >> the new ruling lets them exempt for 30 years, up to 30 years for killing our nation's symbol. the eagles, to tucker's point, the reason they fly like this, why we are not supposed to drive while texting. they fly and they scan for food below down into the waterways and they don't notice what's in front of them. the industrial turbines and they smack into them. they've done a number of different things on tops of football stadiums, there is talk on these different wind turbines that make them both more efficient and safe for birds, but they still have this old technology subsidized by you the taxpayer killing these bald eagles. >> 80,000 hunting birds are

killed every year by these wind farms. what is so startling about this report, it's a symbol of patriotism here in the united states, the bald eagle is. if you put your green hat on, the motives from the president were good, trying to help out the renewable energy industry, but you know what? the real issue, the real reason we are talking about this this morning because the associated press did an expose saying that the obama administration had been turning a blind eye this had been happening all the time. all these wind farms killing these bald eagles and they never charged or prosecuted anybody. >> this is an assault not just on the bald eagle, but the rule of law. the idea laws are passed, but apply only to people who aren't in favor with the people in power. people run wind farms because they give a lot of money to obama or like green energy. they don't have to abide by law.

administration in the entire post war period, republican or democratic, having to send high officials into regions like that to assure our allies that we would support them if confrontation. >> it seems to be the less powerful america is the safer the world is, but it strikes me the opposite is likely true. >> the president seems to think diplomacy only, diplomacy, he is obsessed with doing diplomacy with countries like iran. our allies immediately default to the implications of where a policy like that is going, if it is primarily diplomacy and the threat of military action isn't sitting behind it. if you've got allies believing that the military option is off the table, the adversaries are going to step forward. so you have a very unstable situation. >> they live in a world with fewer illusions than ours. >> i think so. parents, it's time for your kids, but you don't have any? strap them in this chair with

two and one on the way and our tech expert, mom of two. >> cassie, what do you make of this? lazy or good parenting? >> i think technology is here to stay whether we like it or not. study by common sense media found 40% of kids under the age of 2 have been on a mobile device, played a game or played a video. i think it's up to parenting how much is too much. i think we need to have an honest conversation about how technology is going to fit into our lives and into our kids' lives. there are benefits and there are drawbacks. >> that study cassie is just mentioning, is that a bad thing though? we don't want to elevate that and say it's great. kids at 5 months old have been using an ipad five straight months. >> this is what i believe. there are studies. children under the age of 2 should not be put in front of

devices that have technology, the brain is developing. these are the most important times of a child's life newborn to two years. these are facts. the fact that people are going to put them in front of this new device, it's not okay. maybe in moderation once in a while it. understand parents need time and they need a break, but it's about in those first two years of child development playing music to them, reading books, coddling them,ing swaddling them, being with them parent, one-on-one interactions as a parent or caregiver. they don't need to be plopped in front of a mobile device with technology. a child's brain needs to develop properly. >> doesn't she have a point here, we need that human interaction. that eye contact with our children for their actual development. >> absolutely. yes. i don't think anything can take the place of social interaction. i'm not thinking you should plop your kid in front of this for two hours. i don't think that's beneficial.

i'm guilty. i have three kids under the age of 6. i have a 2-year-old. when i need to make a phone call for work, i've given my kid the ipad to play on there a few minutes to do it. i had a kid that was colicy. i would turn elmo on the tv and that would calm her down. i think it's about parenting and finding what's good for your kid. i think a lot of these apps are very educational. i don't know how beneficial it would be for a newborn. i don't know what they can see as far as a screen goes because they see shadows and that kind of thing. from what i read about fisher-price, it's minimal. they have apps on there you can play soft music. i don't know if i would actually use something like that. i think there's a lot of parents out there that would agree. using a little bit here and there, it's not going to be a horrible thing for a child. >> in moderation. really what worries me and scares me, i know a lot of times

running up to the tow truck taking off those parts. one of the men reportedly 18-year-old jamesonwitty. he posted this on instagram and is now behind bars. a reality tv director shot dead at his home. police say three people tried to force their way into the l.a. home and a fight broke out. 42-year-old james marcus howe was killed, his wife seriously wounded in the attack. the shooting appears to be a random act of violence. they see no obvious motive for it. december 7, the day which will live in infahmili infamy. the attack on pearl harbor. on friday hawaiians held a day of remembrance at the uss arizona memorial. more than 120 american troops died in that early morning sneak attack that pulled the united states into world war ii.

spread the word on air. if you're a bartender, have a happy hour. >> wow. we've got a panel of millennials. good morning, everybody. thank you for being with us this morning. what are the reasons for the down turn? >> it's simple. we weren't given a seat at the table when they were formulating obama care. we are responsible for hosting the maximum weight of obama care. the lies about decreasing premium. that's a lie. premiums are rising. keeping your doctor, that's a lie. keeping your plans, that's not happening. these are problems with young people. that's why they want to recall obama. 39% of young people are out of work right now. that's something that's come out of the most recent jobs numbers. then you see employment rose last numbers in november. they went up to i think 11.2%

when the rest of americans dropped. young people are struggling in this economy and struggling due to obama. he can no longer blame bush. >> new unemployment numbers, 7%. that was good, but not for young people. youth unemployment remains at 15.9% from generation opportunities. what is this going to mean for president obama now? are young millennials going to buy into him wooing them with speech is like that? >> i think january 1st when people can go to the doctor, that is a big day for millions of americans. when you parse out the harvard poll, it was taken at the height of the negative website coverage beginning of november. more recent polling shows 3/4 of young people would support democrats, would support barack obama if the election were held today over mitt romney. they're disillusioned largely because he's not progressive

enough. not because they don't like obama care. >> the young millennials are struggling to find work these days. the one good thing president obama can say is you're able to stay on your parents' plan until you're 26. is that enough for him to hang his hat on at the moment? >> i think for young people, political opinions form when you come into age. this is a really critical time for both democrats and republicans to see who can snatch up this next generation. what i think you're seeing among millennials, we want people to have health insurance. we want health insurance. we are coming into a job market that isn't treating young people very well. there's a lot of uncertainty and a lot of cynicism. they want the system to work. i don't care who does it, the private sector, the government, let's make this work. that's why i can't wait to see our generation get into positions of power. we want to work together to solve problems. >> i can't wait to see what happens in midterm elections and 2016.

we've seen some democrats running for the hills on this. what's this going to mean? >> i think they changed that tune. clearly this week was the week they are going on offense, the president going on offense. that's smart for them. the same poll had 3/4 of young people saying they disapprove of republicans in congress. like she said, it's not just about obama here, but what are the alternatives to any proposals the democrats are putting forth. millennials are not supportive of republicans either. >> how do you respond to that. >> the buck stops for the president. >> what are your plans? >> go to the -- >> no, the republican. >> our proposal is across state lines. >> what about those uninsured before? >> you reduce health cost. that allows people to get health insurance. it's unfair. it takes away people's rights and liberties to have choice in

life. >> i had 124 different plans to choose from. and they were all affordable. >> if you have real insurance, real competition happen in america and that's what we are founded on. it's false competition. >> i want to give you the final word on this. >> the unemployment is an issue. obama care certainly an issue. obama care is not going to work if these young, healthy young invincibles do not sign up. >> exactly. only 22% of people aged 18 to 29 planned on signing up for insurance. if this is the law of the land and there isn't any reform to this, we need young people to sign up. if not, just like you said, we need to have a seat at the table. that's why millennials are apathetic about this whole situation. before, their interests have been represented in congress. what you really see is a generation paying much more attention to what's going on in washington saying we are going to have a voice and seat at the table.

mission complete. it took her just over one year to do it, but our next guest shed over 100 pounds in order to accomplish her ultimate goal, joining the united states army. joining us now to share her story is corrina douglas. remarkable story, nice to see you. congratulations, by the way. >> thank you. >> how did you do it? we're sitting here with all the -- certainly the holiday pies are about to start showing up at the house. you got the bunt cake and jell-o mold, everything else. how did you do it, how did you lose 100 pounds? >> dedication, motivation. i work with the guys at the station all the time. i work out seven days a week and diet. i avoid any situation that could give me pie and cookies and all that stuff. >> i understand, though, kind of

what gave you the motivation. you're on this whale watching trip and you see the people looking overboard and almost idolizing members of the coast guard. when you realized you didn't meet the weight requirement, did your heart sink to your stomach or how did you feel at that time? >> i knew i was heavy, just didn't realize how heavy i was. seeing how the people reacted, just the coast guard in gem, i wanted someone to look at me that way. >> that is so nice. now that you are 100 -- more than 100 pounds lighter which, again, is amazing. anybody who has tried to do that knows that is a remarkable affect. what's your next step, where are you going to go? >> i'm supposed to go down on december 12th and until then i push myself as hard as i can possibly go so i can be ready for basic. then i'm going to see how far i can take it. >> i understand you worked out with the soldiers to get yourself ready for all this. what was that like? you're not even there yet but you're working out with soldiers.

>> it couldn't be more inspiring, knowing that a soldier's what i want to become. they did it on their own free time. they didn't have to run with me. it was just a really good thing to kind of look forward and say, that's what i want to be. they're faster than me and they run ahead me so i'm kind of like i'm chasing them and chasing my dream in the same aspect. >> what about other young girls watching the show this morning, maybe struggling with some of the same issues you what do you say to them? >> i would definitely say for people who inspire you, who motivate you, things that you want to become, like, surround yourself with that. literally, if you walked into my room, it would be army stuff everywhere. everything you could possibly think of is in my room. surround yourself with that and just don't give up. you're going to have days where you feel like i'm never going to make that. i'm never going to get there. just keep pushing. lie to yourself. i lied to myself so much. like 4:00 in the morning and i'm running in the freezing cold
